Training teachers and ministers was initially the primary mission of the AUC schools. Primary departments were first established for instruction in reading and writing. Secondary and college programs developed later for liberal arts education and industrial training.

Graduation is a family affair – an occasion for pride in an achievement that was often made possible as much by family sacrifice as individual effort.
