| JOB TITLE: DIGITAL SERVICES LIBRARIAN |
| SUMMARY: |
| This is a new position requiring an individual that can design, develop, and implement a digital library program. Using innovation and creativity, oversees digital services and initiatives including grant funded digital projects. Working collaboratively with colleagues and member institutions, provides expertise to deliver services in support of teaching, learning and research. Program will promote the resources and services in support of the Atlanta University Center (AUC) community and beyond. Develops best practices, policies and procedures for digital asset creation and management. |
| ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
• Responsible for the design, development, and implementation of digital services for the library
• Coordinates projects that develop or enhance academic and digital library systems and services in support of teaching, learning and research of the AUC community
• Collaborates with other academic institutions to increase the visibility of RWWL in local, regional, and national projects (e.g. The HBCU Library Alliances, Georgia Digital Library, ARCHE)
• Participates in the planning and decision-making processes required for delivering services that support teaching, learning, and research
• Identifies and analyzes user requirements for systems and services
• Designs effective digital delivery strategies that allow users to access, integrate, manipulate, and use digital content and learning resources
• Uses knowledge of digital formats, current standards, human interface design, information search and retrieval protocols, and disciplinary trends to maintain and/or implement digital repositories
• Analyzes issues that affect system integration and interoperability, data migration, and digital preservation
• Develops policy, best practices, and procedures necessary to support a wide variety of digital systems and services
• Participates in grant development and implementation

| QUALIFICATIONS: |
• Demonstrate understanding of the application of technology as it relates to scholarship and teaching
• Demonstrated ability to analyze user requirements to deliver technology solutions
• Knowledge of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, EAD, or METS
• Experience with digital image file formats and software
• Familiarity with trends and issues related to preservation of digital content
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Ability to direct the work of support staff
• Knowledge of copyright and licensing issues affecting digitization efforts
• Knowledge of audio and visual applications in the virtual environment
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills
• Excellent oral and written communication skills

| EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: |
• An MIS or MLS degree accredited by the American Library Association
• Experience with digital asset management systems
• Experience developing policies and procedures for digital systems and services
• Project management experience
• Grant writing experience desired
• Demonstrated experience with web page creation, scripting languages (e.g. php), and markup languages (e.g. html, xml)

| The Robert W. Woodruff Library
(RWWL), constructed in 1982, serves four historically
black institutions in the Atlanta University
Center - Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse
College, Spelman College, and the Interdenominational
Theological Center. The Library serves 8,908
undergraduates and 1,425 graduate students.
The Library holds 374,968 volumes, subscribes
to 1,428 serials, holds 54,038 bound periodicals,
859,290 microfilms, a growing number of electronic
databases, and special collections and archives
rich in African American materials. The Library
is a member of ARCHE, SOLINET, OCLC, HBCU Library
Alliance, and a participant of the Georgia
state network, GALILEO. |
