| JOB TITLE: LIBRARY
ASSISTANT - CIRCULATION DEPARTMENT |
| SUMMARY: |
| The Robert W. Woodruff Library is seeking an energetic, highly motivated person with strong customer services skills for the position of Library Assistant. The incumbent will perform duties related to providing customer service and information assistance to Library users.
|
| ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: |
• Provides circulation services to Library users including but not limited to: staffing the circulation desk, registering Library users, circulating material, assessing and clearing fines
• Responds to phone, email and in-person customer inquiries regarding circulation services
• Creates patron, item, and holding records in library database
• Provides information assistance on library resources and services
• Assists in creating and maintaining customer informational materials, unit forms, and/or procedural documents
• Maintains shelf order of materials and shelves returned materials
• Handles user inquiries related to copy services and maintains copiers
• Works a rotating schedule that includes weekdays, evenings and week-ends
• Process and delivers mail
• Maintain supplies

| QUALIFICATIONS: |
• Effective analytical, interpersonal, oral and written communications skills
• Customer service experience. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
• Experience with standard office software such as Microsoft Office applications, online systems, and web resources
• Work experience in a circulation department in an academic library and knowledge of standard library methods and classification systems highly desirable

| EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: |
• High School Diploma or its equivalent. Two years of relevant customer service work experience. Or, the equivalent combination of education, training and experience from which comparable skills can be acquired.
|
| SALARY & BENEFITS: |

| The Robert W. Woodruff Library
(RWWL), constructed in 1982, serves four historically
black institutions in the Atlanta University
Center - Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse
College, Spelman College, and the Interdenominational
Theological Center. The Library serves 8,908
undergraduates and 1,425 graduate students.
The Library holds 374,968 volumes, subscribes
to 1,428 serials, holds 54,038 bound periodicals,
859,290 microfilms, a growing number of electronic
databases, and special collections and archives
rich in African American materials. The Library
is a member of ARCHE, SOLINET, OCLC, HBCU Library
Alliance, and a participant of the Georgia
state network, GALILEO. |
