The New York Times is soliciting nominations for the first-ever The New York Times Academic Librarian Awards. The awards recognize three librarians whose outstanding service has enriched their libraries, institutions of higher learning and communities.
A committee of high-ranking library professionals, including Loretta Parham, CEO/Library Director of the Robert W. Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University Center, will review nominations and select the winners. Academic Librarian Awards winners will be announced in The Times newspaper in December, with the three honorees receiving $2,500 and a commemorative plaque at a special recognition banquet.
Any U.S. college or university librarian with a master’s degree in library science is eligible for nomination. Only nominations submitted by current students, faculty or staff members of accredited colleges or universities within the United States and not related to nominees will be considered. Nominators should honor librarians who consistently demonstrate the highest levels of professionalism, knowledge and public service in the execution of their duties.
Nominations may be submitted in two ways:
1. Via forms and submission boxes in the Woodruff Library and on each Atlanta University Center campus in the following locations:
• Clark Atlanta University – Student Center
• Interdenominational Theological Center – The Chapel
• Morehouse College – Jazzman Café
• Spelman College – Manley Student Center
2. Via The New York Times Academic Librarian Awards Web site at www.nytimes-community.com. Nomination forms and submission guidelines via email or U.S. mail are available on the site.
Deadline for submitting nominations is midnight on October 20, 2006. For more information on the awards, visit The New York Times Academic Librarian Awards Web site at www.nytimes-community.com or e-mail: libraryawards@nytimes.com
