More than 50 participants, including AUC faculty and staff, and librarians from academic and public libraries throughout the Metropolitan Atlanta area attended a grant proposal writing workshop hosted by the Robert W. Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University Center on January 29th.

The half-day event, titled “Writing Successful Grant Proposals: An Insider’s Perspective,” featured presentations and question & answer sessions with Tom Phelps, Senior Program Officer and Acting Director, Division of Public Programs, National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH); and Elaina Norlin, former Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Senior Program Officer and currently Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Outreach for Online Computer Library Center (OCLC).

Phelps and Norlin discussed how to change a great project idea into an award-winning grant proposal. Based on their first-hand experiences reviewing and assessing NEH and IMLS grants, they shared insiders’ tips on creating proposals and avoiding the pitfalls that cause good projects to go unfunded.
