| JOB TITLE: TECHNICAL SERVICES, HEAD |
| SUMMARY: |
| The Robert W. Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University seeks a energetic and dynamic leader to serve as the library’s Head of Technical Services. The Head of Technical Services reports to the Deputy Director will provide leadership and management for the following units: Acquisitions / Cataloging, Periodicals, and Government Documents to include the daily operational activities; assist in aligning the workflow and services of the department with strategic initiatives of the library by benchmarking; assess, adjust and/or implement departmental policies and procedures; supervise a staff of 12; oversee management of serial and electronic resources subscriptions and acquisitions; and works collaboratively with department heads, subject liaisons, and the Information Technology Department to effect user-oriented solutions related to unit services, systems and software. |
| REQUIREMENTS: |
• ALA-accredited MLS
• Minimum of three years experience in at least one of the following areas: acquisitions, cataloging or serials in an academic library
• Progressively responsible supervisory experience in technical services in an academic library
• Experience with Ex Libris Voyager system preferred
• Grant writing experience desirable
• Demonstrated knowledge of current trends, standards, and practices of technical services in academic libraries
•Knowledge of electronic resource licensing principles and practices
• Familiarity with appropriate digital technologies and metadata standards
• Evidence of scholarship and/or professional activity
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
• Excellent organizational and analytical skills

| The Robert W. Woodruff Library
(RWWL), constructed in 1982, serves four historically
black institutions in the Atlanta University
Center - Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse
College, Spelman College, and the Interdenominational
Theological Center. The Library serves 8,908
undergraduates and 1,425 graduate students.
The Library holds 374,968 volumes, subscribes
to 1,428 serials, holds 54,038 bound periodicals,
859,290 microfilms, a growing number of electronic
databases, and special collections and archives
rich in African American materials. The Library
is a member of ARCHE, SOLINET, OCLC, HBCU Library
Alliance, and a participant of the Georgia
state network, GALILEO. |
