In December 2005, the Woodruff Library Board of Trustees endorsed a conceptual plan developed by Shepley Bulfinch Richardson & Abbott, a national firm specializing in architecture and planning designs for education, healthcare, science, corporate and public entities.
The plan charts a course for the transformation of Woodruff's current facility into a more user-focused learning environment that aligns with the Library's programmatic goals and objectives.
Central in the plan is the creation of a Main Level learning commons that incorporates use of digital media displays, cutting edge computing technology and a media presentation center. In addition, Woodruff's main entrance would feature a redesigned lobby, new café and an extended hours study area, all focused on meeting the needs and desires of the 21st century user. Accompanying costs and strategies for a two-phase implementation of the renovation also were outlined in the conceptual plan.
