he Robert W. Woodruff Library receives more than 1,200 current print periodicals and microforms, and provides access to more than 21,000 electronic periodicals.

 

The current year's print titles are displayed alphabetically on the shelves in the Current Periodicals Section (located in the South Wing of the library's main level).

 

Back issues of journals are shelved in the Bound Periodicals Section (located in the North Wing of the library's main level). All microforms and microform readers are located in the Periodicals Department (South Wing of the library's main level).

What are periodicals?

Periodicals are titles that are published on a regular and/or continuing basis. Examples include:

 

  • magazines like Ebony, Fortune, Time or Newsweek
  • newspapers like the The Atlanta Journal & Constitution or New York Times
  • journals like Child Abuse & Neglect, Monthly Labor Review or Journal of Religion

Where are periodicals located in the Library?

The Periodicals Department is located on the main level in the South Wing. The last two years of our journals and magazines are housed in the Periodicals Department. Newspapers are kelp for three months, after three months they must be retrevied form our online databases..

What are e-journals?

A e-journal is a periodical published in electronic format. The format can be in html text, PDF format or both.

How can I access e-journals?

When searching our online databases you can select an option that will only return results in e-journal format. The results may be printed, saved, and/or emailed. Our e-journals can also be accessed through our A to Z Journals Portal.

What are the hours for the Periodicals Department?

The Periodicals Department is open during the Woodruff Library’s normal hours of operation. The Periodicals staff is available to assist you, as needed. Please refer to the library’s Calendar & Hours for schedule adjustments during holiday and interim periods.

How are periodicals arranged on the shelf?

Periodicals are shelved alphabetically by title in three locations: current (2 most recent years), bound, and microform. Microfilm and microfiche is also shelved alphabetically and then placed in chronological order in the microforms cabinet located in the Periodicals Department. Please ask for assistance from the Periodicals Staff.

May I check out periodicals?

Periodicals may not be taken from the library. Library users are encourage to use current periodicals in the Periodical Department.

May I copy articles from periodicals?

Articles from magazines, journals and microforms may be copied. Users will need to purchase a library print card. Copies are 10¢ per page. You must use a one dollar bill to purchase your initial card. The cost of the card is 50¢. There will be a 50¢ balence on the card You can add money on your card using the Card Vendor machine located near the Reference Desk . A bill ($5 / $10 / $20) changing machine is located right next to the print card machine. A color copier is located near the Circulation Desk. Color copies are 50¢ per page for letter and legal size pages, and $1 for 11"x17" size pages.

What if the library does not have the journal I need?

Materials not available at RWWL can usually be borrowed through our Illiad Interlibrary Loan Service
