Cleveland Leon Dennard (b. 1929 d. 1992) was elected as the eighth President of Atlanta University in 1977 holding the position until 1983. During his presidency he established research relationships between the University and the 90 member Association of African Universities, Kiemyung University and Ummah University in Saudi Arabia. Also enrollment of foreign students was significantly increased and included students from 48 countries.
The Cleveland L. Dennard Records primarily document his tenure as President but also include reports and publications of the University from earlier years. Included are correspondence, reports, minutes, programs and printed materials on academic departments, campus events, faculty, Board of Trustees, University Senate, and the Atlanta University Center.
