Archives & Special Collections preserves materials that document the development and contributions of the Atlanta University Center (AUC) institutions. Among the holdings are personal papers of administrators, faculty, and alumni; printed and published materials; administrative files of Atlanta University Presidents; vertical files of ephemera; photographs, theses and dissertations. The holdings are extensive, though not comprehensive. Materials are continually acquired to fill in gaps and document activities and contributions.

The photographs include images of administrators, academic departments, athletics, buildings and grounds, faculty, students and student groups documenting activities and events. There is an extensive collection of photographs on Atlanta University and Clark College. There are a small amount of images on Gammon Theological Center and Interdenominational Theological Center, and Morris Brown College. The Morehouse College Archives and Spelman College Archives maintain the photographs of their institutions.'

Most of these materials are generated by the AUC schools and include published histories, college catalogs, alumni magazines, journals, student newspapers, and yearbooks. Individual titles of publications with brief descriptions are listed below by each school. Although, in most instances, the narratives reflect beginning and ending dates of a publication's run, the Date Span represents only the holdings available in the Archives and Special Collections presently. Materials are continually acquired to fill in gaps and document activities and contributions.

The archival copies of theses and dissertations of the AUC graduate studies programs are maintained in Archives & Special Collections. There are theses and dissertations for Atlanta University, Clark Atlanta University, and the Interdenominational Theological Center. Reference copies of the theses and dissertations are available as part of the Library's reference collection.'

These collections of emphera document the AUC colleges and universities as well as AUC collaborative entities such as the Atlanta University System and the AUC Inc. The materials are filed by institution and arranged by department and include brochures, calendars, flyers, invitations, programs, newspaper clippings, newsletters, posters, and reports. There are also files on individuals integrated in the Biographical Vertical File.'

PUBLICATIONS
Atlanta University Alumni Directory published in 1986 provides a portrait of the alumni that graduated during the university's 120 year history. The directory is indexed by name (addresses, degree and year), class year and geographically by state.
Atlanta University Bulletin was first published in 1883. The publication appeared periodically, until 1889 when it published eight times per year. In 1910 it began its publication as a quarterly with each April edition, The Bulletin, published as the college catalog of classes. The Atlanta University Bulletin includes articles, photographs, reflections, tributes, poetry, and memorials and was published through 1978.

The Catalogue was first published periodically from the University Press in 1918. Included is a complete list of presidents, trustees, teachers, graduates, vital statistics, and class offerings from 1869 through 1918. In 1921 the publication became the Atlanta University Bulletin: The Catalogue. In 1929 it was published as the General Catalogue of Atlanta University, 1867-1929. The Summer Catalog began appearing periodically in the early 1930's. The AU Bulletin: The Catalogue continued until the 1987-1989 edition when it became the Clark Atlanta University Catalog.

The Atlanta University Publications is a series of monographs on topics pertaining to the life, health, economic development, and social conditions of African Americans. The Publications are the edited proceedings from the annual Conference for the Study of Negro Problems held at Atlanta University. W. E. B. DuBois became director of the conferences in 1898 and edited the 3rd-18th proceedings. The Publications began in 1896 and continued until1917. They were renewed in 1941, then permanently discontinued in 1944. “The Atlanta University Publications”was issued as a multi-volume reprint set by a number of publishers during the 1960s.

Crimson and Gray was a monthly paper published by the Alumni Association as a journal to promote support and solicit endowments. This publication featured articles and photographs related to alumni news, events, and donors.

Phylon, A Review of Race and Culture was a quarterly journal established and edited by W.E.B. Dubois in 1940. The articles written by leading scholars of the day included research findings, literary criticism, essays on policy issues, interpretations of scientific findings, and book reviews. Phylon was published by Atlanta University until 1987. It re-emerge as a Clark Atlanta University publication, whereupon two issues were published 1992 and 2001.

The Scroll a monthly student paper was first published in 1895 under the auspices of the Phi Kappa Society of the Alumni Association to keep students, former students and alumni in touch. The Scroll featured student editorials, contests, athletic scores, poetry and advertisement. A 1940 single issue published as “Clarity”ended this student paper.

Alumni Directory published in 1987 provides a portrait of the alumni is indexed by name (addresses, degree and year), class year and geographically by state.
Alumni Quarterly was a single edition published in 1955. The Quarterly featured a campus report, articles, editorials, reunion announcements, sports and other events.
The Clark University Bulletin first published through the Clark University Printing Office in 1891 featured school calendar, announcements, lists of Board of Trustees faculty, instructors, general information and included the Clark University Catalogue.
The Clark University Catalogue featured student's names for the college department, normal department and dressmaking department with course descriptions.
Clark University Bulletin ceased publication i n 1941, but reemerged as the Clark College Bulletin in the 1941-1942 academic year, continuing to publish, The Catalogue, included, until 1976. The Clark College Catalog (i.e. Catalogue) continued to publish through the 1988-1989 academic year.

Circular is a publication of Gammon School of Theology when it was part of the Department of Theology of Clark University. This early catalog included class offerings, list of faculty and students, announcements, brief articles on events and guest lecturers.

The Crogman Cycle was the first yearbook published by Clark students in 1926, named in honor of William H. Crogman who served the University for thirty-five years as an educator and seven years as President. Crogman Cycle features editorials and profiles of Clark University campus events and individuals. Twenty years would pass before another yearbook was produced, under the name Panther Yearbook.

The Mentor originally a student-published magazine, which in 1952 became an alumni magazine published by the Clark College Alumni Office. The Mentor was preceded by The Elevator in 1890 and The Courier in 1898. The Mentor continued until 1945 when the name changed to The Panther. This student publication continues today under the auspices of Clark Atlanta University.

Panther Yearbook was published in 1946, twenty years after the first yearbook Crogman Cycle was issued. The Panther Yearbook provides a photographic history of student life and activities and achievements at the College. The Panther Yearbook was published through 1986 by Clark College and continues today under the auspices of Clark Atlanta University.

Clark Atlanta University Alumni Directory published in 2003, is indexed by name (addresses, degree and year), class year and geographically by state. It also has an index by school (e.g. arts, sciences) and a career networking section by occupation.
The directory uniquely integrates alumni of each historical institution: Atlanta University, Clark University, Clark College and Clark Atlanta University.
Clark Atlanta University Catalog is published annually through 1986-with a special Summer School Bulletin published periodically. The CAU Catalog publishes every two or three years since 1989. Included is a list of President's Office, Board of Trustees, faculty, and course offerings. The Catalog continues in publication today.

(In the 1869-1870 academic year Gammon School of Theology when was part of the Department of Theology of Clark University. In 1883 Gammon Theological Seminary became an independent institution. In 1958 Gammon joined with other seminaries to form the Interdenominational Theological Center. )

The Gammon Theological Seminary Quarterly Bulletin features academic calendars, abstracts, special addresses and lecturers. Each year one issue of the Bulletin is published as the Quarterly Catalogue Edition and includes class offerings, academic calendar, list of faculty and administrators. Bulletin of Gammon published periodically as the Seminary Quarterly Bulletin from 1954 through 1958.

The Foundation began in 1911 as a monthly publication for seminarian students and alumni of the Stewart Missionary Foundation for Africa and the School of Missions. In 1920 the issues were reduced to six times per year, then quarterly in 1932. It features editorials, articles, campus and alumni notes, professorial lectures, profiles of campus visitors, book reviews and addresses. The Foundation ended publication in 1981.
