POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

JOB TITLE: REFERENCE LIBRARIAN/SCIENCE SUBJECT LIAISON

SUMMARY:

The Robert W. Woodruff Library of the Atlanta University Center is looking for a creative and energetic individual to fill the position of Reference Librarian. The Reference Librarian will provide general and specialized research assistance for on-site and virtual library users; participate in user-centered, subject specific instruction through general orientation sessions and course integrated instruction to develop information literacy competencies. The Librarian will also participate in collection development and faculty liaison activities for the member institutions in a subject area(s) for which there are graduate and undergraduate programs. This position reports to the Head of Information and Research Services

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate degree in library science from an ALA accredited program required
  • Masters degree in the natural sciences or mathematics preferred
  • Two to three years experience performing reference and instruction services in an academic library
  • Experience working with an integrated library system
  • Experience working with digital library services
  • Experience in web page development
  • Teaching/Instruction experience highly desirable
  • Provides general and specialized reference services for on-site and remote library users, including night and week-end rotations
  • Provides curriculum-integrated, information literacy library instruction
  • Participates in collection development activities and provides outreach to faculty, including, serving as liaison for academic program/departments in subject areas supporting the curriculum and research needs of the member institutions
  • Participates in general library orientation activities
  • Participates in the development, implementation, and assessment of services, policies, procedures, and publications
  • Develops instructional materials, research guides, web tutorials and other resources to optimize utilization and understanding of Library services
  • Creates and delivers topical research seminars, individual and group training
  • Participates in library-wide initiatives through committees and task forces
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic resources related to an academic research environment
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in a culturally diverse environment
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills

 

SALARY & BENEFITS:

The Robert W. Woodruff Library (RWWL), constructed in 1982, serves four historically black institutions in the Atlanta University Center - Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, Spelman College, and the Interdenominational Theological Center. The Library serves 8,908 undergraduates and 1,425 graduate students. The Library holds 374,968 volumes, subscribes to 1,428 serials, holds 54,038 bound periodicals, 859,290 microfilms, a growing number of electronic databases, and special collections and archives rich in African American materials. The Library is a member of ARCHE, SOLINET, OCLC, HBCU Library Alliance, and a participant of the Georgia state network, GALILEO.
