ATLANTA, GA, December 2025  The Atlanta University Center Robert W. Woodruff Library is proud to celebrate a major milestone this month: 25 years of service as a member of the U.S. Government Publishing Office’s (GPO) Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP).

Since joining the program in 2000, the AUC Woodruff Library has played a vital role in ensuring public access to government information for students, scholars, and the broader community. This anniversary recognizes a quarter-century of commitment to transparency, information accessibility, and public service.

In a congratulatory message acknowledging the milestone, the GPO expressed its appreciation, stating:
“We appreciate the service you provide to your community and the nation, and are glad to partner with you in our mission of Keeping America Informed.”

About the Federal Depository Library Program

The FDLP, administered by GPO, ensures free public access to federal documents in libraries across the United States. Working in partnership with GPO, participating libraries support the national mission of Keeping America Informed by providing access to authentic government publications in both print and electronic formats.

Today, approximately 1,150 libraries nationwide, including academic, public, state, and special libraries, participate in the program. The FDLP’s origins date back more than two centuries to an act of Congress on December 27, 1813, which mandated distributing copies of congressional journals and documents to universities, colleges, and historical societies across the nation. GPO has overseen and expanded the program since 1895.

Supporting Public Access to Government Knowledge

FDLP librarians across the country, including those at the AUC Woodruff Library, offer expert assistance in navigating a wide range of federal resources. This includes digital access through govinfo.gov and the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications, which provide historical and contemporary documents from all three branches of government.

As the AUC Woodruff Library marks its 25-year anniversary with the FDLP, it continues to uphold its mission of supporting research, lifelong learning, and equitable access to information for the Atlanta University Center community and beyond.
