The AUC Robert W. Woodruff Library was honored to welcome representatives of the Barbados Reclaiming Our Atlantic Destiny (ROAD) Program on July 20 for a special visit centered on digital preservation and cultural heritage. Described by Barbados Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley, S.C., M.P. as “one of the most significant projects undertaken since the country declared independence,” the ROAD Program reflects Barbados’ commitment to honoring and preserving its history and cultural heritage.

During their visit, participants explored the Library’s Digital Services Lab, where they learned about the HBCU Digital Library Trust project and the innovative work being done to preserve and provide access to archival collections. Guests also viewed digital collections, listened to audio recordings from HBCU archives, and engaged in discussions about best practices in digital preservation.

The Archives Research Center also showcased a curated selection of materials, including items related to UNCF and other noteworthy collections that highlight the stories, achievements, and impact of HBCUs.
