Library Hosts Academic Writing Institute for AUC Junior Faculty
Last semester, the AUC Woodruff Library was awarded a sub-grant from the HBCU Library Alliance’s Expanding Library Support for Faculty Research Project to host an academic writing institute for AUC junior faculty. Entitled, “Publish or Perish? An Academic Writing Institute for AUC Junior Faculty,” the project was designed to: 1) provide junior faculty with an overview of the services offered by the Library that can help to facilitate their research process; 2) introduce methods for documenting research findings in the 21st century publishing environment; and 3) provide a forum, led by tenured faculty, to enhance participant knowledge about the publishing processes associated with their specific disciplines.
Sixteen AUC junior faculty members participated in the two-day Academic Writing Institute which was conducted in the Library on December 15-16, 2014. The first day focused on research support services provided by the Library. The second day focused on all steps involved in the scholarly publishing process. Institute faculty also returned for a brown bag sharing session to discuss post-Institute writing progress. The Library will continue to host Institute participants’ writing and research efforts by serving as the host site for weekly meetings of the AUC Junior Faculty Writing Circle.
For more information about how the Library can support faculty research and writing efforts, contact Dr. Rosaline Odom, Discovery & Access Services Department Head and Academic Writing Institute Coordinator at [email protected] or 404.978.2129.
