AUC Woodruff Library Announces Winners of Research Travel Awards

The AUC Woodruff Library has announced the winners of it research travel awards to promote scholarship of the rich and unique historical and cultural holdings in its Archives Research Center. The awards of up to $1500 are provided to scholars located beyond the geographic area of Atlanta.

The winners of the award are Garrett Felber, doctoral candidate at the University of Michigan; Joseph Rosenbloom, JD, freelance writer; and Dr. Brandon Winford, assistant professor of history at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.  The awardee research period is for April 1 through November 25, 2015. Felber will be conducting research using the C. Eric Lincoln Collection for his dissertation, and Rosenbloom will be researching the Morehouse College Martin Luther King, Jr. Collection for a book publication. Dr. Brandon Winford will be exploring the John H. Wheeler Collection for a book publication.

“In our second year of offering the Research Travel Award, we received a tremendous response from researchers interested in using our rich collections.  The award is mutually beneficial – in exchange for providing funds for travel to our Archives Research Center, scholars publish and share their research with others, increasing awareness and accessibility to these rare and unique holdings found in our repository.”

Available for research in the Archives Research Center are rare books and over 105 collections of manuscripts, photographs, and archival records documenting the African American and African diaspora experience in a  broad range of subjects including civil rights, race relations, education, literature, visual and performing arts, religion, politics, and social work.
